Privacy Policy
The short version. The Budgeteer app does not collect, store, or send any personal data to us or to anyone else. Your budget stays on your iPhone. This website may use basic, anonymous analytics to see how many people visit; details are below.
This policy explains what information Budgeteer (the iPhone app) and getbudgeteerapp.com (this website) handle, and how. "We", "us" and "our" refer to the developer of Budgeteer. "You" means the person using the app or visiting the site.
1. The Budgeteer app
What the app collects
Nothing. The app has no account, no sign up, no login, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting of its own, and no connection to any server we operate. We never see your income, your categories, your entries, your notes, or anything else you type into it.
Where your data lives
Everything you enter is stored in a database file inside the app's own container on your iPhone. The app also writes a daily backup file (in JSON format) to Files > On My iPhone > Budget > Backups, keeping the last 30 days. If you choose a backup folder in Settings (for example a folder in iCloud Drive), the app mirrors those backups there as well. Those files are yours: you can open, copy, move or delete them at any time.
Your data is included in your normal iPhone backups (iCloud Backup or a backup to a Mac or PC) according to your own device settings. That data is handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy, not by us.
Export
The Activity screen can export a month as a CSV file through the standard iOS share sheet. Where that file goes (Mail, Messages, Files, another app) is entirely your choice, and we never receive a copy.
Permissions
The app asks for no system permissions beyond access to a folder you deliberately pick for backups. It does not use your location, contacts, camera, microphone, photos, or advertising identifier.
Deleting your data
Delete entries, categories, or whole months inside the app, or delete the app to remove its container and everything in it. Backups mirrored to a folder you chose stay there until you delete them, because they are ordinary files in your own storage.
2. This website (getbudgeteerapp.com)
Server logs
Like almost every website, our web server keeps standard access logs for security and troubleshooting. A log line contains the page requested, the time, your browser's user agent string, and your IP address. Logs are rotated and deleted automatically after a short period and are not combined with any other data.
The "Try it" demo
The interactive demo on the home page runs entirely in your browser. Amounts you enter are kept in your browser's local storage so they survive a refresh, and are never sent anywhere. The "Reset demo" button clears them, as does clearing your browser's site data.
Analytics
We may use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit the site and which pages they look at. If and when it is enabled, Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information such as the pages you visit, the time you spend, the approximate region you are visiting from, your device type and browser, and the site that referred you. IP addresses are anonymized or truncated by Google before they are stored, and we do not use advertising features or build profiles of individual visitors.
Google processes this information under its own terms. You can read how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and you can opt out of Google Analytics everywhere with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. We do not use analytics to make decisions about you as an individual.
Cookies
The site itself sets no cookies. If Google Analytics is enabled, it sets cookies (for example _ga) used only to tell returning visitors from new ones and to measure sessions. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site works fully without them.
| Source | What | Why | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Budgeteer app | Nothing collected | Not applicable | Not applicable |
| Web server | IP address, user agent, pages requested | Security, troubleshooting | Up to 14 days |
| Google Analytics (if enabled) | Pages visited, device and browser, approximate region, referrer, cookies | Understand site usage in aggregate | Per Google's retention settings, at most 14 months |
| Try it demo | Amounts you enter | Persist the demo across refreshes | In your browser until you reset or clear site data |
3. Sharing and selling
We do not sell, rent, or trade any information. We do not share information with third parties except, if analytics is enabled, with Google as described above, or where the law requires it.
4. Children
Budgeteer is not directed at children under 13, and because the app collects no information at all, it does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through this website, contact us and we will delete it.
5. Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under Canada's PIPEDA, the EU and UK GDPR, and California's CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of personal information about you. For the app, everything is already in your hands on your own device. For the website, the only information we could hold about you is in short-lived server logs or in anonymous analytics, and we will honour any request we are able to act on. Write to the address below.
6. Security
Your app data is protected by your iPhone's own encryption and passcode. This website is served over HTTPS. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but the simplest protection applies here: we do not hold your data, so it cannot leak from us.
7. Changes to this policy
If we change how the app or the website handle information (for example, if analytics is turned on or off), we will update this page and the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes to the app's data handling will also be noted in the app's release notes.
